Chad Baker-Mazara takes legal action against Eric Musselman for alleged inappropriate conduct
The basketball player of Dominican descent, Chad Baker-Mazara, has filed a lawsuit in the city of Los Angeles against Eric Musselman, the current head coach of the University of Southern California (USC) men’s team. The athlete claims to have been the victim of a hostile confrontation characterized by insults and racially charged comments from the coach.
According to the documentation filed this Monday with judicial authorities, the conflict took place in the locker room following USC’s 82-67 loss to Nebraska, a match played on February 28. Baker-Mazara, who saw action for 19 minutes before leaving due to an injury, recounts that the atmosphere became tense when Musselman began to reprimand his players.
The details of the confrontation
The player states in his complaint that, upon attempting to intervene with a motivational message to his teammates, the coach reacted explosively. According to the testimony, Musselman snapped at him: “Shut up! You are one of the worst teammates anyone could have!”.
Baker-Mazara maintains that the altercation was not only verbally aggressive, but was marked by racial connotations that affected his integrity within the Trojans’ sports program, shortly before he was excluded from the team in the month of March.
