The Canadian women’s national volleyball team made a statement this Friday at the “Ricardo Gioriver Arias” Volleyball Palace, defeating Puerto Rico in straight sets with scores of 25-16, 25-22, and 25-10. With this resounding victory, the Canadians sealed their ticket to the decisive match that grants qualification to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The Canadian team, which arrives at this stage as the current champions of the NORCECA Continental Championship, now awaits its rival in the grand final. The opponent will emerge from the duel between the Queens of the Caribbean and the Cuban representative, who face each other in search of keeping their Olympic dream alive.
Offensive leadership and match statistics
The Canadian attack was led by Kiera Van Ryk, who became the star of the match by recording 20 points, standing out with 13 effective attacks and three key blocks. For her part, Emily Maglio contributed significantly to the victory with nine units.
On the opposite side, the Puerto Rican team tried to resist the onslaught, with Decelise Annalee Champion as their top offensive exponent, scoring 12 points, all of them derived from her effectiveness in blocking.
