Tigres del Licey reinforce their camp with the arrival of Emilio Bonifacio and Estevan Florial
The Tigres del Licey training camp, held at the Toronto Blue Jays’ facilities in Baseball City, Boca Chica, welcomed two fundamental pieces for the upcoming season this Tuesday: captain Emilio Bonifacio and outfielder Estevan Florial.
The presence of Bonifacio, an emblem of the organization, brings experience and leadership to the group. At 35 years old, the blue captain boasts an enviable record with five national titles won with the team in the 2009, 2014, 2017, 2022, and 2023 seasons. Furthermore, his career in the Dominican Professional Baseball League is historic, as he stands as one of the few players with more than 450 hits, 300 runs scored, and 100 stolen bases in the regular season.
The integration of Bonifacio and Florial marks a decisive step in the preparation of the Tigres del Licey, who are looking to consolidate a competitive roster for the 2026-2027 championship.
For his part, Estevan Florial joins the team after an outstanding performance in the Mexican Baseball League. The 28-year-old outfielder demonstrated his offensive capability by recording a .293 batting average, with 15 home runs and 47 runs batted in. His performance was complemented by notable speed on the bases, achieving 26 stolen bases in 88 games, which promises dynamism for the blues’ game system.
New talents strengthen pitching and roster depth
In addition to the star figures, the training session featured the incorporation of several prospects and players looking to earn a spot on the big league team:
- Abel Mercedes and Adrián Rodríguez (Right-handed pitchers, known for their fastballs that reach 100 miles per hour).
- Jefferson Jean (Pitcher).
- Luis Báez (Outfielder).
- Michael De León (Infielder).
- Jommer Hernández (Catcher).
With the arrival of these reinforcements, the blue team continues to intensify its practices, ensuring a balanced mix of experience and youth to face the challenges of the upcoming LIDOM tournament.
