Dominican Republic Army intercepts 76 irregular migrants in the border area
The Dominican Republic Army (ERD) intensified its surveillance efforts in the border area, achieving the interdiction of 76 Haitian nationals who were attempting to enter the country in an irregular migratory status. These operations, carried out in the provinces of Elías Piña and Dajabón, are part of the permanent national security strategy to control migratory flow and combat the illicit trafficking of persons.
Details of the interventions in Elías Piña and Dajabón
The actions were deployed at various strategic points under the supervision of different units of the ERD:
- Las Matas de Farfán: Soldiers from the General Pedro Florentino Fortress intercepted 21 people (9 men, 11 women, and one minor) in the communities of Sabana Mula and El Pon. In this operation, two motorcycles used for the transport of the foreigners were confiscated.
- El Libertador Post (Dajabón): Troops from the 10th Infantry Battalion detained 23 individuals (16 men and 7 women), along with two seized motorcycles.
- Santa María Checkpoint: In a similar operation, 17 people (10 men and 7 women) were intercepted and four motorcycles were seized.
- La Vigía Post: A group of 15 people was detained, consisting of 8 men, 5 women, and 2 minors.
As a result of these operations, the authorities managed to confiscate a total of eight motorcycles that were used to facilitate the transport of undocumented individuals into Dominican territory.
The Dominican Republic Army maintains its firm commitment to sovereignty and border control, deploying constant patrols to prevent irregular entry and dismantle migrant smuggling networks throughout the border area.
Following the arrests, all Haitian citizens were taken into military custody and handed over to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) to complete the repatriation process in accordance with Dominican laws. Meanwhile, the seized vehicles remain held under Army control for the corresponding legal purposes.
