Road accident on Kennedy Avenue leaves several injured and tensions with the press

A serious traffic accident was reported this Wednesday morning on John F. Kennedy Avenue, near the entrance to Los Jardines del Norte, in the National District. The incident involved a public transport unit from the La Isabelita Route 11, a truck, and a motorcycle driver.

According to the testimonies of the passengers who were on board the bus, the driver was traveling at an excessive speed. This recklessness allegedly caused the initial impact against a truck, and then collided with a motorcyclist who was traveling through the area. The bus’s journey ended when it crashed into the facilities of Avelino Auto Servicio.

As a result of the collision, multiple people were reported injured, including the public transport driver and several service users, who were assisted after the strong impact.

Incident with the press during coverage

The reporting work at the scene was marred by an altercation between people linked to the accident and the press teams that arrived to document the news. Several individuals showed a hostile attitude toward the communicators, demanding the cessation of recordings under threats of confiscating work equipment.

Amidst the tense situation, a physical assault was recorded against cameraman Joel de la Cruz, who was fulfilling his duty to report on the traffic accident on the busy avenue.

This type of obstruction to freedom of the press and the use of violence against media workers during the exercise of their duties has generated rejection, while the authorities maintain investigations to clarify the exact causes of the accident that occurred in the capital.
