International agenda: President Abinader to lead official mission in Rome and Prague

The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, will embark this Saturday on an important diplomatic tour that will take him to Italy and the Czech Republic. The president will carry out an agenda focused on international cooperation, the strengthening of trade ties, and food security, highlighting the recognition the country will receive for its progress in the fight against hunger.

Dominican prominence at the World Food Forum

The central point of the visit to Rome will be Abinader’s participation in the World Food Forum 2026, which will take place at the FAO headquarters. During the event, the Dominican Republic will be awarded after reaching the Zero Hunger goal, keeping undernourishment levels below 2.5%. The head of state will act as the keynote speaker at the inauguration and will hold strategic meetings with the FAO Director-General, Qu Dongyu, and the Deputy Executive Director of the World Food Programme, Carl Skau.

The Dominican Republic positions itself as a regional benchmark in food security policies, an achievement that will be officially recognized by international organizations in Rome.

Diplomacy and business in Europe

The president’s agenda includes significant milestones in both the political and business spheres:

  • Prague (October 13): Participation in the 30th Annual Forum 2000 Conference, with dialogues focused on democracy and global security alongside NATO representatives.
  • Italy (October 14): High-level meetings with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Additionally, the Italy-Dominican Republic Business Forum will be inaugurated to promote investment and commercial exchange.
  • Vatican (October 15): Private audience with Pope Leo XIV and meeting with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See.

Dominican culture on the international stage

The conclusion of the visit will be marked by a prominent cultural display. In addition to the presentation of a work by artist Juan Trinidad to the FAO museum, the delegation will pay a special tribute to singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra, recognizing the global impact of his iconic composition “Ojalá que llueva café en el campo.” The closing day will feature an artistic performance by Maridalia Hernández.

The official delegation accompanying the president is composed of ambassadors Rafael Lantigua, Víctor Suárez, and Ada Hernández, along with the Director of State Ceremonial and Protocol, Francisco José Cantizano Nadal. The president’s return to the country is scheduled for Friday, October 16.
