Dominican youth set Guinness record with 500 hours of reading
The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, extended a special congratulation to a group of five young Dominicans who achieved a historic feat by completing 500 hours of continuous reading aloud. This achievement, which has been officially certified by Guinness World Records, highlights the commitment and discipline of the Dominican youth.
During his recent stay in New York City, the president made time in his official schedule to personally recognize the protagonists of this initiative called “Youth Out Loud.” The head of state highlighted that the effort and perseverance demonstrated by the participants serve as an inspiring model for the entire nation.
They set a great goal for themselves, achieving 500 hours of reading aloud. With this Guinness record, they fill us with pride; they are a great example for the entire country.

Details of the historic day
The team that achieved this recognition is made up of Abril Sharmin del Rosario Jiménez, Ismael Durán, Maikol Arias, Mayury Vélez, and Franchesca Minier. These young people organized themselves into rotating shifts for 21 consecutive days to ensure that the reading did not stop for a single moment.
- Challenge start: August 31st.
- Goal exceeded: Participants surpassed the initial target of 480 hours, extending it until completing 500 hours.
- Content: During the challenge, the youth read a wide selection of literary works, from both Dominican and international authors.
This project was promoted by the Ministry of Youth, with the support of the Ministry of Education. The initiative sought to foster the habit of reading and highlight the intellectual capabilities and the physical and mental endurance of Dominican youth on a global stage.
