FORT WORTH, Texas – Young driver Connor Zilisch, 18, who already has two wins in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, will miss Saturday’s race in Texas due to injuries in the lumbar area sustained in a last-lap accident at Talladega.
Trackhouse Racing announced on Wednesday that its development driver will return to the No. 88 Chevrolet of JR Motorsports as soon as possible. The team did not provide additional details about Zilisch’s injuries.
Kyle Larson, Cup Series regular driver, will drive the No. 88 in Texas. After that, the Xfinity Series will have a two-week break before returning to competition on May 24 in Charlotte.
Zilisch, who was in sixth position in the general classification after the first 11 races, was fighting for the victory at Talladega Superspeedway when contact on the backstretch caused his car to spin and crash head-on into the inside wall.
Zilisch obtained the victory in his debut in the Xfinity at Watkins Glen last September 14th. He added another victory this year in Austin, the same weekend he debuted in the Cup Series. He has accumulated six top-ten finishes in his 15 races in the Xfinity.
