Shane van Gisbergen Secures His Future with Trackhouse Racing

Pilot Shane van Gisbergen has signed a multi-year contract extension with Trackhouse Racing, following his outstanding debut season in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. The team announced this Friday that the Auckland, New Zealand native will continue with them “for the next few years.” The specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed. With wins from the pole position in Mexico City, Chicago, and Sonoma Raceway, van Gisbergen has secured fourth place in the 2025 playoffs, with three races remaining in the regular season.

After winning three championships in Australia’s Supercars series, van Gisbergen was hired by Trackhouse two years ago as part of its Project 91 program, designed to showcase international drivers in NASCAR’s premier series. In the inaugural Chicago Street Race in July 2023, van Gisbergen became the first driver to win in his Cup debut since Johnny Rutherford in 1963. Van Gisbergen moved to NASCAR last year and reached the Xfinity Series playoffs with two wins for Kaulig Racing. This year, he moved up to the Cup with Trackhouse in the No. 88 Chevrolet and became the foreign-born driver with the most wins in NASCAR history. In Sunday’s race at Watkins Glen International, van Gisbergen will look to join Chase Elliott and Jeff Gordon as the only drivers with four consecutive wins on road or street circuits.

Xfinity Series points leader Connor Zilisch, who has five wins for JR Motorsports, will make his fourth Cup appearance on Sunday for Trackhouse Racing and has been mentioned as a prime candidate to take over Suárez’s seat.
