Denny Hamlin Conquers Dover for the Second Consecutive Time

In a demonstration of absolute dominance, Denny Hamlin, driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, took the victory at Dover Motor Speedway, securing his fourth win of the season and repeating the triumph of the previous year at this circuit. Hamlin, driving the number 11 Toyota, demonstrated his skill by maintaining the lead during a race marked by a rain delay and an exciting overtime finish. This victory represents Hamlin’s second consecutive win at Dover, adding to his previous triumphs at Martinsville, Darlington, and Michigan. With 58 wins in the NASCAR Cup Series, Hamlin is only two victories away from reaching Kevin Harvick on the list of the 10 drivers with the most wins in the history of the competition.

Winning here in Dover is something very special for me. In the first half of my career I didn’t do very well at this track. Repeating the victory here for the last two years is incredible.

The Hamlin celebration comes after a legal setback for his team 23XI Racing, in an antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR. A federal judge rejected the request of 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports to continue competing with their licenses while the case is resolved. Despite the legal situation, Hamlin maintained his focus on the track, surpassing his JGR teammate, Chase Briscoe, to secure the victory. Hendrick Motorsports drivers, Alex Bowman and Kyle Larson, took third and fourth place respectively. The race, the first in Dover since 1969, was interrupted by rain, forcing the drivers to face extreme conditions inside their vehicles, with temperatures reaching 140 degrees. After a 56-minute pause, Hamlin returned to the track with used tires, but managed to maintain his lead and cross the finish line in first place.

We still have a lot to do.

The next stop for NASCAR drivers will be the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where Kyle Larson took the victory last season.
