NASCAR Will Not Implement Restrictions on Celebrations After Connor Zilisch Accident

In response to the incident involving Connor Zilisch, Xfinity series driver, NASCAR has confirmed that it does not plan to restrict driver celebrations in the Victory Lane area. Zilisch suffered a fall that resulted in a broken collarbone. Mike Forde, NASCAR’s communications director, addressed the issue on the “Hauler Talk” podcast, revealing that, while certain precautions will be implemented in Victory Lane, no new policies will be established. Zilisch, after obtaining his sixth victory of the season at Watkins Glen International, tried to celebrate by climbing onto the roof of his No. 88 Chevrolet. During the celebration, apparently his left foot got tangled in the driver’s window net, which caused him to fall onto the asphalt. The 19-year-old young pilot was taken to the hospital, where the clavicle fracture was confirmed.

I’m very grateful to be out of that, and I guess I didn’t walk out, but I’m very grateful to be walking today and to be okay.

Forde indicated that NASCAR will not prohibit drivers from getting into the vehicles in Victory Lane. Likewise, NASCAR will take preventive measures to avoid situations similar to those that caused Zilisch’s fall. Forde explained that the window net waving on the outside may have contributed to the accident. A review will be considered to ensure that the net stays inside the car, thus eliminating a possible tripping hazard.

Connor Zilisch y su lesión en Victory Lane ponen en duda su participación en la próxima carrera de Xfinity.
Zilisch underwent surgery on Tuesday, and his participation in the upcoming Xfinity series race at Daytona International Speedway on August 22 is uncertain. Zilisch already missed a race this season due to a back injury sustained in an accident at Talladega Superspeedway, for which he received a waiver. Forde did not specify whether Zilisch would receive a waiver for the playoffs in case he missed the race at Daytona.
