NASCAR Moves to Naval Base Coronado for a Historic Race

NASCAR has announced a significant change to its race schedule for next year. Instead of the event in downtown Chicago, the competition will move to Naval Base Coronado in Southern California. This decision marks an important milestone, as it will be the first time NASCAR holds a race on an active military base. The race, scheduled for June, will coincide with the 250th anniversary of the United States Navy. The event will span a three-day weekend, from June 19 to 21, and will include all three NASCAR national series.

As part of the 250th anniversary of our nation, we are honored that NASCAR will join the celebration by hosting our first street race on a military base, Naval Base Coronado. The NASCAR San Diego Weekend will honor the history of the Navy and the men and women who serve while bringing the best of world motorsport to the streets of Naval Base Coronado.

This will be the second street race in NASCAR history, after the one in Chicago. Although the circuit design is not yet finalized, it is estimated to be around 3 miles long. Moving to San Diego doesn’t rule out a return to Chicago in the future, where NASCAR will maintain an office with the hope of racing again, possibly in 2027. Amy Lupo, who has been in NASCAR since 2021 and was key in the Coliseum event, has been named race president. Lupo has extensive experience in the sports industry, including more than 20 years in the expansion of the X Games.
