Denny Hamlin Secures His Future with Joe Gibbs Racing

Star driver Denny Hamlin has signed a contract extension with Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), solidifying his long career with the team. The agreement, which is expected to be the last of his career, is for multiple years, with Hamlin opting for a two-year duration.

Two years is what I was comfortable with. I wanted to make sure I gave them the right amount of time and commit to them not just for a year, but for several, so they can continue building the program. I want to make sure I stay in my best shape in my last year.

Hamlin, 44 years old, has shown exceptional performance this season, accumulating four victories and leading the points table, only behind the Hendrick Motorsports drivers. A victory at the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway would allow Hamlin to complete a historic achievement in NASCAR racing.
  • Three Daytona 500s
  • Three Southern 500s
  • One Coca-Cola 600

Adding another jewel in the crown would be important, and then to have swept them all. The names on that list are very prestigious, so it would mean a lot to me. It would simply be another feather in the cap.

Since his debut in 2005, Hamlin has achieved an impressive career, with 706 races, all with JGR, being the longest-tenured driver on the team. He holds the number 11 position on the Cup wins list, with 244 top-five finishes and 369 top-ten finishes, in addition to 44 poles. Hamlin, along with Michael Jordan, also co-owns the NASCAR team 23XI Racing. Hamlin is not ready to retire yet, and could consider a return to JGR in the future. Hamlin’s agreement is based on his desire to assess his competitiveness and the state of the team in the next two years.
