With this 59th career victory, Hamlin joins his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Chase Briscoe, who took second place, and Chase Elliott, who finished third. The strategy of team No. 11 led Hamlin to the pits for the last time with 44 laps remaining. After a restart, the driver took the lead from Brad Keselowski, securing the victory and marking Toyota’s 200th triumph in NASCAR’s premier series. Hamlin celebrated with a spectacular burnout, receiving both applause and boos from the crowd present at Gateway. The driver, known for his personality, expressed:

Obviously, it’s unfortunate. We’ll go to Bristol and try to do our best and put ourselves in a position to compete for a win, and that’s really all we can do at this point.” Elliott apologized for the incident.

“I didn’t mean to hit him,” Elliott said. “I’ve known those guys forever, so I hope they know it wasn’t intentional. I felt terrible at the time and wish I could take it back.”
