Tension at Joe Gibbs Racing: Hamlin and Gibbs smooth out rough edges after on-track incident
Following the run-in between Denny Hamlin and Ty Gibbs in the last race, the Joe Gibbs Racing team has sought to calm the waters. The incident, caused by a block from Gibbs on Hamlin, generated internal tensions that are now being attempted to be resolved. Hamlin, who is competing for his first Cup championship, and Gibbs, who is not eligible for the title, were involved in a track clash that ignited tempers. Hamlin, through the team radio, questioned whether the organization was afraid to give orders to Gibbs, 22 years old.JGR teammate Christopher Bell made it clear that the priority is to avoid incidents between Toyota drivers. Bell emphasized the importance of respecting each other in the remaining six races.“I definitely got too heated and went too far on my part. There are things I should have done differently,” Hamlin commented.

Meanwhile, Chase Briscoe, also from JGR, secured the pole position for the race in Kansas, marking his seventh pole of the season. Briscoe will share the front row with Hamlin.
Kyle Larson, from Hendrick Motorsports, expressed his opinion on the situation, highlighting that, although the competition for the victory is fundamental, there are clear expectations about how teammates should cooperate. Larson pointed out that, in his team, collaboration is evident in every race, even in situations where positions are yielded to benefit teammates. Hamlin’s frustration, according to Larson, is understandable, and he hopes that internal conversations at JGR have improved the situation.
