Tension at Joe Gibbs Racing after incident between Hamlin and Gibbs

After a clash between teammates, things seem to have calmed down at Joe Gibbs Racing. The incident involved Denny Hamlin and Ty Gibbs, who were involved in a crash in New Hampshire. Hamlin, seeking his first championship in the Cup Series, and Gibbs, who is not eligible for the title, had contact on the track. Hamlin, through the team radio, questioned whether the organization was afraid to give orders to the 22-year-old young driver.

There were things I should have done differently.

Hamlin admitted that he reacted impulsively and that “he went too far.” During a competition meeting, everyone involved had the opportunity to express their views. Christopher Bell, also a JGR driver, made it clear that the priority is to avoid friction between teammates. There are six races left to define the champion. Chase Briscoe, another JGR driver, achieved his seventh pole position of the year, leading the grid in Kansas. Briscoe and Hamlin will start on the front row. The competition is expected to be clean at the start of the race, according to Kyle Larson, Hendrick Motorsports driver. Larson believes that Gibbs competed too intensely against a title contender, who is also his teammate. Larson explained that, although the priority is to win, collaboration between teammates is expected, especially in situations like last week’s.
