Denny Hamlin Celebrates His 60th Victory with Emotion in Las Vegas

In an emotional day at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Denny Hamlin conquered his sixth checkered flag of the season, marking his 60th career victory. This achievement, dedicated to his father, who is facing health issues, secures him a place in the NASCAR championship final. Hamlin, 44, and a three-time Daytona 500 winner, is once again in the race for the championship, a milestone he hadn’t reached since 2021. In addition to being Joe Gibbs Racing’s most successful driver, he now also leads Toyota in victories. The Virginia driver, currently tied for tenth place on the NASCAR win list with Kevin Harvick, couldn’t hold back the tears after an intense battle in the last ten laps, beating Kyle Larson and his JGR teammate, Chase Briscoe.

“This victory is for my father, who introduced me to the world of motorsports and supported me unconditionally,” Hamlin declared.

Hamlin, after a strategic pit stop, managed to recover from fifth position, overtaking Joey Logano and then Larson and Briscoe, who were at a disadvantage with their tires. This victory could be the most significant of his career, according to Hamlin himself, who thanked the support of his team and his new team boss, Chris Gayle. Joe Gibbs, moved by Hamlin’s dedication, expressed his admiration for the driver and his connection with his father. The race also featured the participation of Kyle Larson, who finished in second place, followed by Christopher Bell and Chase Briscoe. William Byron, who had a mishap on the track, was involved in a crash that took him out of the competition. Regarding the playoff situation, Byron, Elliott, Logano, and Blaney are in a delicate position, with two races remaining in this stage.

Challenges for Blaney

Ryan Blaney, who started the race in second place in the standings, suffered a setback by hitting the wall due to a tire issue. This incident relegated him to the last position in the playoffs round. Despite this setback, Blaney is confident of recovering in the next race at Talladega Superspeedway, where he has had success in the past.
