Denny Hamlin Secures His 60th Victory in an Emotional Race in Las Vegas

In a race full of emotions and with tears in his eyes, Denny Hamlin took the victory at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, achieving his sixth checkered flag of the season and the number 60 of his career. This triumph not only represents a milestone in his career, but also secures him a place in the NASCAR championship final. Hamlin, known for being one of the most outstanding drivers without yet having won a Cup Series title, dedicated this victory to his father, who is facing health problems.

“I am very happy that you were able to see the 60th victory. That was very important to me,” Hamlin declared.

Hamlin, who is Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota’s most successful driver, tied Kevin Harvick for tenth place on the NASCAR wins list. The victory in Las Vegas was the result of an intense battle in the last ten laps, where he managed to beat Kyle Larson and his teammate Chase Briscoe. After the race, Hamlin expressed the importance of this victory, which he dedicated to his 75-year-old father, who introduced him to the world of motorsports and supported him throughout his career. Hamlin, after a final pit stop to put on four new tires, rallied from fifth position, overtaking Joey Logano, Kyle Larson and Chase Briscoe to secure the victory. This victory marks the most important of his career, according to his own words. Team principal, Chris Gayle, received praise for the adjustments made in the final stop, which allowed Hamlin to obtain his seventh victory of the season, the most since 2020. Joe Gibbs, moved by Hamlin’s dedication, highlighted the importance of this triumph, especially because of his father’s support. In the race, Kyle Larson finished second, followed by Christopher Bell and Chase Briscoe. Tyler Reddick, who competes for 23XI Racing, owned by Hamlin, took fifth place, while the defending Cup Series champion, Joey Logano, finished sixth.

Several important drivers in the championship race, such as Chase Elliott and William Byron, had unfortunate performances. Byron, after going off track and being overtaken by Larson, was involved in an accident that took him out of the race.

For Ryan Blaney, the race was a hard blow, as a problem with a tire led him to crash against the wall, finishing in 38th position and losing ground in the championship standings. In related news, Tyler Reddick, despite the health issues his son is facing, participated in the race. On the other hand, Rob Edwards, from the Andretti Global IndyCar team, made his NASCAR debut as part of the ownership group. The next NASCAR race will take place at the Talladega Superspeedway.
