In a race full of emotions and unexpected twists, Chase Elliott took the victory at Kansas Speedway, securing his place in the third round of the NASCAR playoffs. The driver, starting from eighth position, starred in a spectacular comeback in the last two laps of extra time, taking the checkered flag. The competition, which seemed destined for Denny Hamlin, who led for 159 laps, was altered by a series of incidents and pit stops that changed the course of the race. Bubba Wallace, at one point, positioned himself for the victory, but Elliott’s strategy and audacity relegated him. The finish was particularly intense, with Wallace and Christopher Bell battling side by side. At that moment, Elliott took advantage of the situation to overtake Hamlin and secure his second victory of the season.

What a crazy finish! I hope everyone enjoyed it. I certainly did.

Elliott joins Ryan Blaney as the drivers qualified for the third round. After the race in Concord, North Carolina, the group will be reduced from 12 to 8 competitors.

I wasn’t going to give up, so I didn’t know what was going to happen. In the end, it was what it was. It was really cool to be eighth on the restart and somehow win.

Denny Hamlin, visibly disappointed after finishing second, lamented the lost opportunity to secure his place in the next phase and achieve his 60th victory. Hamlin competed the last laps with power steering problems. Simply very disappointing. I wanted it a lot. It would have been number 60 for me. Bell and Chase Briscoe, Hamlin’s teammates, rounded out the top four. Wallace, for his part, finished fifth and, despite not achieving victory, was satisfied with his performance.

To have a chance to win with how we started… we messed up. We weren’t good.

Elliott, at the wheel of a Chevrolet, was the only non-Toyota driver in the top 5. The next race will be at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval, where Kyle Larson won last year. After that race, the playoff field will be reduced to eight drivers. The four drivers at risk of elimination are Ross Chastain, Austin Cindric, Reddick, and Wallace.

Obviously, there’s only one thing we can do in Charlotte (win), and that’s what we’ll focus on.
