In a race filled with emotions and unexpected twists, Chase Elliott took the victory at Kansas Speedway, securing his place in the third round of the NASCAR playoffs. Elliott, starting from eighth position, starred in an epic comeback in the last laps, surpassing his competitors in a two-lap sprint to cross the finish line in first place. The race, which seemed destined for Denny Hamlin, who dominated much of the competition leading 159 laps, had a wild finish. Hamlin was affected by problems in pit stops and other incidents that prevented him from achieving his 60th victory. The competition was marked by multiple late yellow flags, which put Bubba Wallace in a privileged position for the victory. A red flag stop, due to Zane Smith’s rollover, set up the final restart. In the final restart, Wallace and Christopher Bell battled side-by-side for the victory, until Hamlin surprisingly appeared, and Wallace brushed the wall trying to defend himself from his boss. It was then that Elliott took advantage of the situation and slipped in to get his second victory of the season. What a crazy finish! I hope everyone enjoyed it. I certainly did.

Elliott joins Ryan Blaney as the two drivers secured in the third round of the playoffs. After the next race in Concord, North Carolina, the group will be reduced from 12 to eight drivers.

I wasn’t going to lift, so I didn’t know what was going to happen. In the end, it was what it was.

Hamlin, visibly disappointed, finished second. The three-time Daytona 500 winner needed the victory to secure his place in the next round and remained at 59 wins, with the goal of reaching 60. Hamlin ran the last 50 laps with power steering problems. Simply very disappointing. I wanted it a lot. It would have been number 60 for me. Bell and Chase Briscoe, Hamlin’s teammates at JGR, rounded out the top four. Wallace, who finished fifth, was satisfied considering the poor performance of his car at the start of the race. He even showed understanding towards Hamlin, shaking his hand in the pit lane.

To have a chance to win with the way we started… we were wrong. We weren’t good.

Elliott, in a Chevrolet from Hendrick Motorsports, was the only driver who wasn’t driving a Toyota in the top five. The next race will be on the mixed oval/road course at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The four drivers in danger of elimination before that race are Ross Chastain, Austin Cindric, Reddick, and Wallace.

Obviously, there’s only one thing we can do in Charlotte (win), and that’s what we’ll focus on.
