William Byron Extends His Contract with Hendrick Motorsports Through 2029
Driver William Byron has secured his future with Hendrick Motorsports, signing a four-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2029 NASCAR Cup Series season. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Byron, 27, has established himself as one of the most competitive drivers in the sport, accumulating 14 Cup Series wins and six consecutive playoff appearances, from 2019 to 2024. Since joining crew chief Rudy Fugle in 2021, he has achieved 13 wins, the second-highest total in the series during that period.
In his eighth season, Byron won this year’s Daytona 500 for the second consecutive time, becoming the youngest winner in the event’s history.
Currently, Byron holds second place in the Cup Series standings after 12 point-scoring races.
We’ve built something special with the No. 24 team. I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue working with incredible people at Hendrick Motorsports who believe in me, especially Mr. and Mrs. Hendrick. We’ve accomplished great things that we’re really proud of, but we have even bigger goals ahead. I’m excited to go after them with this team and this organization.
William Byron
Byron first signed with Hendrick Motorsports at 18 years old. He was named Cup Series Rookie of the Year in 2018 and has become a Cup Series championship contender, with six consecutive playoff appearances, including two consecutive Championship 4 appearances in 2023 and 2024. He is the only driver, besides Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon, to win in the iconic No. 24 Chevrolet from Hendrick Motorsports.
William is the real deal. What makes him so special is that he combines natural ability with an unmatched work ethic. You see it in the greats: the drivers who could get by on talent alone, but who choose to work harder than everyone else. That’s William. On top of everything, he is a person of great character and embraces his role as a leader. We are proud to have him in our lineup and look forward to many more victories together.
Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports
Byron will compete on Sunday in the Coca-Cola 600, the longest race of the NASCAR season.
