Carlos Ulberg demonstrated his power in the UFC octagon with an impressive first-round knockout over Dominick Reyes at UFC Fight Night in Perth. Ulberg, currently in third place in the light heavyweight rankings, extended his undefeated streak to nine fights, going back to February 2022. The City Kick Boxing fighter has secured his position as the next contender in the division. Ulberg started as the favorite against Reyes, who arrived after a streak of three consecutive victories. From the start of the fight, Ulberg took control, advancing and preventing Reyes from connecting significant blows. A left hook seemed to wobble Reyes, while Ulberg continued to pressure. With less than a minute left in the first round, Ulberg seized the opportunity. A left hand struck Reyes, making him stumble, and a powerful right hook sent him to the canvas, ending the fight.

My goal with Reyes was to box him, and he felt the power from the beginning, I saw in his eyes that he didn’t want to feel it again, so in the next opportunity I went with the combination and knocked him down.

The New Zealand wrestler enjoyed the ovation of the Perth public before focusing on the title fight next week. Ulberg confirmed that he requested to be the official alternate for the UFC 320 main event. “I’m here to break records, this is what I want to do. I don’t think anyone has fought a fight and the following week has fought for the title. And that’s what I envision. If they can make me the alternate, it would be incredible,” he stated. In other main card results, Tom Nolan secured a submission victory over Charlie Campbell. Jack Jenkins ensured a decision victory over Ramon Taveras. Neil Magny starred in a spectacular comeback in the third round to defeat Jake Matthews by submission, and Jimmy Crute continued his resurgence in the light heavyweight division by submitting Ivan Erslan. Of the 11 Australian and New Zealand fighters on the card, 10 were victorious.
