Historical Takedown Record and Upcoming Challenges in the UFC
The UFC bantamweight champion, Merab Dvalishvili, has set an impressive milestone by becoming the first fighter to record 100 takedowns inside the octagon. In his recent title defense against Cory Sandhagen, Dvalishvili surpassed this mark, achieving 20 additional takedowns and raising his total to 117 in his UFC career. Before Dvalishvili, Georges St-Pierre approached the 100 takedown mark, accumulating 90 throughout his outstanding UFC career. This achievement highlights the magnitude of Dvalishvili’s feat, who, at 34 years old, could even surpass 200 takedowns before the end of his career. Furthermore, the fighter has already expressed his interest in a fourth title defense for December. This weekend, former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira will face Mateusz Gamrot in the main event of UFC Fight Night from Rio de Janeiro. It will be the first time Oliveira has competed in his home country since 2020. Oliveira, known for his impressive UFC records, leads in finishes (20), submissions (16), and night bonuses (20). At 35 years old, Oliveira is not considering retirement, and could break other significant records in the UFC. Below, we explore some of the most important milestones that Oliveira and other fighters are pursuing:50 UFC Fights
Reaching 50 fights in the UFC is an extraordinary achievement, especially considering the pace of three fights per year that is considered active in MMA. To achieve this, a fighter would need more than 16 years in the UFC. Jim Miller, who debuted in 2008, holds the record with 46 appearances and intends to reach 50. Oliveira, with 15 more fights, could get close to this mark.30 UFC Wins
Jim Miller also leads this record with 27 victories. Oliveira, with 23 victories, and Neil Magny, with 24, are other contenders. Magny, at 38 years old, has demonstrated his relevance with two victories this year.20 Consecutive Victories
The official record for consecutive wins in the UFC is 16, set by Anderson Silva. However, Jon Jones has an undefeated streak of 19 fights, although one of them was declared “no contest”. Jones, who announced his retirement but does not rule out a return, could be one victory away from reaching 20 consecutive wins. Islam Makhachev could also extend his streak to 16 wins next month.
