UFC 319 Suffers Significant Losses Just Days Before the Event

The UFC 319 pay-per-view event has suffered significant setbacks with the cancellation of three fights in just two days, due to various circumstances. The most unexpected miss occurred on Friday, when Bryan Battle failed to meet the weight limit in the middleweight category, exceeding it by 4 pounds. The scheduled fight between Battle and Nursulton Ruziboev was canceled as a result of this situation. It is worth noting that this is the second consecutive time that Battle has failed to make weight in a UFC appearance, although the previous one was in the welterweight category in December. Despite moving up a weight class for Saturday’s event, Battle again failed to reach the established weight. Battle, 30, has shown a good performance inside the octagon, with a record of 7-1 in the UFC. UFC 319 also lost a final welterweight fight from “The Ultimate Fighter”. The match between Rodrigo Sezinando and Daniil Donchenko was canceled due to an injury to Sezinando. The fight will be rescheduled for a later date. Additionally, an expected lightweight bout between Diego Ferreira and King Green was also removed from the card this week. Green announced via social media that he was forced to withdraw from the event due to an injury.

Fortunately for the UFC, the expected main event for the middleweight title between Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev is still on. Both fighters made weight on Friday, including Chimaev, who weighed in at 183 pounds, two pounds under the limit. The UFC even had middleweight contender Caio Borralho ready as a backup, although for now, his services will not be required.
