Arman Tsarukyan Sparks Controversy at UFC Fight Night Weigh-in

UFC lightweight fighter Arman Tsarukyan was involved in an incident during the ceremonial weigh-in prior to his fight at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Qatar. Tsarukyan, who will face Dan Hooker, headbutted his opponent. The altercation occurred as both fighters were preparing to face off for the last time before their five-round fight. Despite the blow, Hooker suffered no injuries and seemed to take the incident in good spirits.

Come on, I love it!

Confrontations during weigh-ins are uncommon in the UFC. However, Tsarukyan has a history of similar incidents. In 2024, he was suspended and fined by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after assaulting a fan during his entrance to the octagon at UFC 300. Since the UFC self-regulates in Qatar, any sanction for Friday’s headbutt must be imposed by the promotion itself. Tsarukyan seeks to establish himself as a contender for the lightweight title. He was scheduled to fight for the title against Islam Makhachev in January, but had to withdraw the day before the fight due to back spasms. Currently, Tsarukyan and Hooker hold the number 1 and 6 positions, respectively, in the UFC lightweight rankings.
