Tatiana Suarez, despite not performing well in her fight for the UFC strawweight championship in February, could be on her way to another opportunity. Her recent victory against a top 5 ranked rival at Saturday’s event has boosted her position in the divisional rankings.Seven months ago, Suarez arrived undefeated to her title fight against Zhang Weili, after dominating all her previous opponents thanks to her effective wrestling. However, Zhang managed to defend most of Suarez’s takedown attempts and secured the victory, before moving up to flyweight. Currently, Weili is preparing to challenge Valentina Shevchenko for the belt in that category, on November 15.This leaves the 115-pound title vacant, and after the fights of Virna Jandiroba and Mackenzie Dern on October 25, the winner could be the first to be challenged by Suarez.In Saturday’s UFC Fight Night event, Suarez regained her fighting level and defeated Amanda Lemos, who was one spot above her in the strawweight rankings. With this victory, Suarez (11-1) surpasses Lemos and now holds the number 4 spot.The winner of Saturday’s main event, Diego Lopes, remains at number 3 among featherweights, as the fighter just above him, Movsar Evloev, previously defeated him.In addition, there were three other changes in the rankings, due to the eligibility rule that requires fighters to compete in the last year or have a scheduled fight.
