UFC’s former middleweight champion, Sean Strickland, is indefinitely suspended from competition following an altercation with another fighter at an MMA event in June in Las Vegas.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) made the decision to suspend Strickland, 34, due to his involvement in the incident. It is a common practice for the NSAC to suspend a licensed athlete or coach until an official punishment is issued at a disciplinary hearing.
The Strickland case was scheduled for the NSAC’s monthly meeting on Wednesday, but the commission opted to postpone the hearing to a future date.
The incident took place at a Tuff-N-Uff event on June 29th in Las Vegas. Strickland entered the cage after a fighter he trains, Miles Hunsinger, suffered a submission loss to Luis Hernandez.
Immediately after the victory, Hernandez provoked Hunsinger’s corner, which caused a reaction from Strickland and UFC fighter Chris Curtis as well. A video captured Strickland throwing a couple of punches at Hernandez.
It is very likely that the UFC will not announce a fight for Strickland until this matter is resolved.
Strickland hasn’t fought since he failed to regain the 185-pound championship against Dricus Du Plessis in February.
