Sean Strickland Indefinitely Suspended After Altercation at MMA Event
Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland has been suspended from all competition following an incident at an MMA event in Las Vegas last June. The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) imposed an indefinite suspension on 34-year-old Strickland due to his involvement in the altercation. It is a common practice for the commission to suspend licensed athletes or coaches until an official sanction is determined at a disciplinary hearing. Strickland’s case was included on the commission’s monthly calendar on Wednesday, but it was decided to postpone the hearing to a later date. The incident took place at a Tuff-N-Uff event on June 29 in Las Vegas. Strickland entered the cage after a fighter he trains, Miles Hunsinger, suffered a submission loss to Luis Hernandez. Immediately after the victory, Hernandez taunted Hunsinger’s corner, which provoked the reaction of Strickland and fellow UFC fighter Chris Curtis. A video captured Strickland throwing several punches at Hernandez.
It’s almost certain that the UFC won’t announce any fight for Strickland until this matter is resolved. His last fight was in February, where he failed to regain the 185-pound championship against Dricus Du Plessis.
