Sean Strickland Indefinitely Suspended After Altercation at MMA Event

The former UFC middleweight champion, Sean Strickland, has been suspended from all competition following an incident at an MMA event in Las Vegas last June. The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) made the decision to indefinitely suspend Strickland, 34, due to his involvement in the altercation.

Indefinite suspension is a common practice of the commission, which usually suspends athletes or support staff with a license until an official sanction is determined in a disciplinary hearing. Strickland’s case was scheduled to be discussed at the commission’s monthly meeting on Wednesday, but it was decided to postpone the hearing to a later date.

The altercation took place on June 29th at a Tuff-N-Uff event in Las Vegas. Strickland entered the cage after Miles Hunsinger, a fighter he trains, suffered a submission loss to Luis Hernandez. Immediately after the victory, Hernandez provoked Hunsinger’s corner, which led to a response from Strickland and UFC fighter Chris Curtis. A video captured Strickland throwing several punches at Hernandez.

It is highly probable that the UFC will not announce any fight for Strickland until this matter is resolved. His last fight was in February, where he failed to regain the 185-pound championship against Dricus Du Plessis.
