Dustin Poirier, a prominent figure in mixed martial arts, has made it clear that he has no plans to return to the octagon. However, a possible boxing match against Nate Diaz could change his plans. Poirier, 36, announced his retirement from the UFC in July, after his final fight against Max Holloway in his home state of Louisiana. Despite his decision, the fighter surprised his fans with a statement on social media.

Zuffa Boxing, 12 rounds, me and Nathaniel, I would do it.

Poirier and Diaz were scheduled to face each other in the UFC in 2018 in New York, but the fight did not materialize. Both fighters blame each other for the cancellation. Diaz, 40 years old, left the UFC in 2022 and debuted in professional boxing against Jake Paul in 2023, losing by unanimous decision. His last appearance was a victory against Jorge Masvidal in July 2024. Diaz has not yet responded to Poirier’s proposal.

I’m retired, I’m done, but Nate is one who got away.
