Patricio Pitbull Rejects Fight with Losene Keita After Missing Weight

UFC featherweight fighter Patricio Pitbull has declined to face Losene Keita at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night event in Paris, after Keita missed weight by three pounds on Friday. Pitbull, 38, made it clear that he would not accept any agreed-upon weight agreement after Keita failed to make the required weight. The fight was scheduled on short notice, but Pitbull argued that his younger opponent should have had an easier time making weight, as Keita resides and trains in Europe, while Pitbull is based in Brazil.

He said in an interview that he was faster, stronger, and younger. I gave him all the advantages, as well as allowing this fight to happen here in Paris. He drove two hours to get here, so there was no suffering. His weight was low, he reached 165 [pounds] like me.

Pitbull continued expressing his frustration. “I am absolutely sure he didn’t try [to cut weight]. At 9 a.m., he weighed in, he was over, and instead of trying until 11 a.m., which is the limit, he was eating baby food. Fuck you, man. If you want to blame someone, blame my opponent.” Keita, 27, was supposed to make his UFC debut. He publicly apologized for missing weight on Friday.

For the first time in 25 fights, I couldn’t make weight, and it had to happen in my UFC debut. I wanted to continue and would have given everything to make weight, but my body wouldn’t. Sincerely, I apologize to my fans. I will return, as every time I fall in life.
