Alex Pereira seeks to regain the throne against Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320

UFC light heavyweight ex-champion Alex Pereira will face Magomed Ankalaev in a highly anticipated fight at UFC 320, scheduled for October 4th in Las Vegas. The official announcement of the rematch for the 205-pound title was made by UFC CEO Dana White through his social media. The pay-per-view event UFC 320 will take place at the T-Mobile Arena. Pereira (12-3), who was previously a kickboxing champion in multiple categories and UFC middleweight champion, has established himself as one of the most prominent figures in the sport. However, he lost his belt to Ankalaev (21-1-1) in a decision at UFC 313, in March.

Pereira, 38, is recognized as one of the most decorated combat sports athletes of all time. In 2024, he was considered a strong candidate for Fighter of the Year, thanks to his impressive knockouts over Jamahal Hill, JiYí Procházka, and Khalil Rountree Jr. Ankalaev, originally from Dagestan, is likely the favorite to beat him for the second time. The 33-year-old fighter remains undefeated in his last 13 appearances. In addition to the main event, White announced a bantamweight title fight between Merab Dvalishvili (20-4) and Cory Sandhagen (18-5) as the co-main event. Dvalishvili will seek his third title defense this year, following victories over Umar Nurmagomedov and Sean O’Malley. Sandhagen will seek his first undisputed UFC championship, after losing to Petr Yan in an interim title fight in 2021. Light heavyweight contenders Procházka (31-5-1) and Rountree (14-6) will also face off on the main card of UFC 320.
