Alex Pereira seeks to regain the title against Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira will face Magomed Ankalaev in a rematch for the title at UFC 320, an event that will take place on October 4 in Las Vegas.
The announcement of the highly anticipated rematch was made by UFC CEO Dana White through his social media on Tuesday. The pay-per-view event UFC 320 will be held at the T-Mobile Arena.
Pereira (12-3), who was previously a kickboxing champion in multiple categories and also the UFC middleweight champion, became one of the most prominent figures in the sport in 2024. However, he lost his belt by decision to Ankalaev (21-1-1) at UFC 313 in March. At 38 years old, Pereira is recognized as one of the most decorated athletes in the history of combat sports. He was considered one of the best fighters of 2024 thanks to his knockout victories over Jamahal Hill, JiYí Procházka, and Khalil Rountree Jr.
Ankalaev, originally from Dagestan, is the favorite to defeat Pereira for the second time. The 33-year-old fighter remains undefeated in his last 13 appearances.
In addition to the main event, White announced a bantamweight title fight between Merab Dvalishvili (20-4) and Cory Sandhagen (18-5) as the co-main event.
Dvalishvil will seek his third title defense this year, following his victories over Umar Nurmagomedov and Sean O’Malley. Sandhagen, for his part, will seek his first undisputed UFC championship. Previously, he lost to Petr Yan in an interim title fight in 2021.
In the main card of UFC 320, light heavyweight contenders Prochazka (31-5-1) and Rountree Jr. (14-6) will also face each other.
