Charles Oliveira Returns to Brazil to Face Rafael Fiziev in a Clash of Titans

UFC lightweight ex-champion Charles Oliveira will make his awaited return to Brazil to face Rafael Fiziev on October 11 in Rio de Janeiro.

This exciting match will mark Oliveira’s return to his homeland after more than five years of absence.

The UFC confirmed this lightweight matchup on Thursday, scheduled to headline the UFC Fight Night event at the Farmasi Arena.

This event represents the UFC’s first return to Rio de Janeiro since May 2024.

Oliveira, with a record of 35-11, comes to this fight after a knockout loss in the first round against Ilia Topuria in June, during UFC 317.

Despite the defeat, Oliveira did not hesitate to accept the opportunity to fight in front of his audience.

Born in the Brazilian favelas, Oliveira hasn’t fought at home since March 2020. The event at that time was held behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The last time Oliveira competed in front of a Brazilian crowd was in November 2019.

Fiziev (13-4), for his part, will seek to get back on track in his career. Although he has shown great potential in the UFC, he recently suffered a streak of three losses, including two against former interim champion Justin Gaethje.

Fiziev managed to get back on the winning track in June, obtaining a decision victory over Ignacio Bahamondes.

Currently, Oliveira and Fiziev hold the number 4 and 10 spots, respectively, in the UFC lightweight rankings.
