New York City Mayor Weighs in on UFC 322 Fight
The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, has announced his intention to legally address the fight that took place at the UFC 322 event at Madison Square Garden. The incident involved Dillon Danis, former training partner of Conor McGregor, and several members of the team of UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev. The fight occurred in the arena, moments before the main card of the event on November 15th. Makhachev, who headlined the event, was crowned welterweight champion. Although the UFC usually quickly leaves behind disputes between athletes, Mayor Adams has made it clear that the city will take action. In the press conference after the event, UFC CEO Dana White announced the permanent ban of Danis from future UFC events. Danis has a history of public altercations and had posted derogatory comments and photos, some false, about Makhachev in the days leading up to the event. Several videos show that Magomed ‘Chancho’ Zaynukov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, Makhachev’s teammates, were involved in the incident, including blows to Danis’s head. Danis was escorted out of the arena by security, and Makhachev’s teammates were also removed. The animosity between Danis and Makhachev’s team dates back to 2017, when McGregor challenged Makhachev’s mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, for the UFC lightweight championship. These attacks at Madison Square Garden are completely unacceptable. The New York Police Department is already conducting a full investigation, and all those responsible will be held accountable.
