The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, has announced his intention to legally address the fight that took place at UFC 322 at Madison Square Garden. Last Monday, Adams shared video footage of the fight, in which Dillon Danis, former training partner of UFC star Conor McGregor, and several members of the team of UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev were involved. The altercation occurred in the arena, moments before the main card of UFC 322 on November 15th. Makhachev, who headlined the event, was crowned welterweight champion over Jack Della Maddalena. Although the UFC tends to quickly minimize disputes between athletes, Adams has made it clear that the city will take action.

These assaults at Madison Square Garden are completely unacceptable. The New York Police Department is already conducting a full investigation, and everyone responsible will be held accountable.

In the press conference after the UFC 322 event, UFC CEO Dana White announced the permanent ban of Danis from future UFC events. Danis has a history of public altercations and had posted derogatory comments and photos, some of them false, about Makhachev online in the days leading up to UFC 322.

Several videos showed that Makhachev’s teammates, Magomed ‘Chanco’ Zaynukov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, participated in the incident, including blows to the back of Danis’s head. Danis was immediately escorted out of the arena by security. Makhachev’s teammates were also removed and watched his world title performance from another location. The animosity between Danis and Makhachev’s team dates back to 2017, when McGregor challenged Makhachev’s mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, for the UFC lightweight championship.
