New York City Mayor Intervenes in UFC 322 Fight
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced his intention to take legal action regarding the fight that occurred at the UFC 322 event, held at Madison Square Garden. The incident involved Dillon Danis, former training partner of Conor McGregor, and several members of the UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev’s team. The fight broke out in the venue area, just before the main card of the November 15th event. Mayor Adams shared images of the altercation, underscoring the seriousness of the situation. In the press conference after the event, UFC CEO Dana White announced the permanent ban of Danis from future UFC events. Danis has a history of public altercations and had posted offensive comments and photos, some of them false, about Makhachev in the days leading up to the event. Several videos showed the participation of Makhachev’s teammates, Magomed ‘Chanco’ Zaynukov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, in the incident, including blows to Danis’s head. Danis was escorted out of the venue by security, while Makhachev’s teammates were removed and watched their teammate’s performance from another location. The animosity between Danis and Makhachev’s team dates back to 2017, when McGregor challenged Makhachev’s mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, for the UFC lightweight championship. Makhachev commented on the situation:“These assaults at Madison Square Garden are completely unacceptable. The New York Police Department is already conducting a thorough investigation, and all those responsible will be held accountable.”
