New York City Mayor Weighs in on UFC 322 Fight
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced his intention to legally address the fight that occurred at the UFC 322 event, held earlier this month at Madison Square Garden. On Monday, Adams shared video footage of the fight, which involved Dillon Danis, former teammate of UFC star Conor McGregor, and several members of the team of UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev. The fight took place in the arena, moments before the main card of UFC 322 on November 15th. Makhachev headlined the event and won the welterweight championship over Jack Della Maddalena.In the press conference following the UFC 322 event on November 15, UFC CEO Dana White announced that the promotion was imposing a permanent “ban” on Danis from future UFC events. Danis has a history of public altercations and had posted derogatory comments and photos, some of which were false, about Makhachev online in the days leading up to UFC 322. Several videos showed that Makhachev’s teammates, Magomed ‘Chanco’ Zaynukov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, were involved in the incident, including throwing punches at the back of Danis’s head. Danis was immediately escorted out of the arena by security. Makhachev’s teammates were also removed and watched his world title performance from outside the venue. The animosity between Danis and Makhachev’s team dates back to 2017, when McGregor challenged Makhachev’s mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, for the UFC lightweight championship.These assaults at Madison Square Garden are completely unacceptable. The New York Police Department is already conducting a full investigation, and everyone responsible will be held accountable.
