New York City Mayor Weighs in on UFC 322 Fight
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced his intention to legally address the fight that took place at the UFC 322 event at Madison Square Garden. The incident involved Dillon Danis, former training partner of Conor McGregor, and several members of the UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev’s team. The fight occurred in the arena, moments before the main card of the event on November 15th. Makhachev, who headlined the event, was crowned welterweight champion over Jack Della Maddalena. In the press conference after the event, UFC CEO Dana White announced the permanent ban of Danis from future UFC events. Danis has a history of public altercations and had posted derogatory comments and photos about Makhachev online. Several videos showed the participation of Makhachev’s teammates, Magomed ‘Chanco’ Zaynukov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, in the incident, including blows to Danis’s head. Danis was escorted out of the arena by security, and Makhachev’s teammates were also removed. The animosity between Danis and Makhachev’s team dates back to 2017, when McGregor challenged Makhachev’s mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, for the UFC lightweight championship. According to Makhachev, “When you talk about someone for the last five years, when you meet them, you have to answer for what you said.”These assaults at Madison Square Garden are completely unacceptable. The New York Police Department is already conducting a full investigation, and everyone responsible will be held accountable.
