New York City Mayor Weighs in on UFC 322 Fight

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced his intention to take legal action regarding the fight that occurred at the UFC 322 event, held earlier this month at Madison Square Garden. On Monday, Adams shared video footage of the brawl, where Dillon Danis, former training partner of UFC star Conor McGregor, and several members of the team of UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev, could be seen. The fight took place on the arena floor, moments before the main card of UFC 322 on November 15th. Makhachev headlined the event and was crowned welterweight champion over Jack Della Maddalena.

These assaults at Madison Square Garden are completely unacceptable. The NYPD is already conducting a full investigation, and everyone responsible will be held accountable.

UFC CEO Dana White announced at the press conference following the UFC 322 event that Danis has been permanently banned from future UFC events. Danis has a history of public altercations and had posted derogatory comments and photos, some of them false, about Makhachev online in the days leading up to UFC 322. Several videos showed that Makhachev’s teammates, Magomed ‘Chanco’ Zaynukov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, were involved in the incident, including throwing punches at the back of Danis’s head. Danis was immediately escorted out of the arena by security. Makhachev’s teammates were also removed and watched his world title performance from outside the venue. The animosity between Danis and Makhachev’s team dates back to 2017, when McGregor challenged Makhachev’s mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, for the UFC lightweight championship. Makhachev commented on the incident the night of the fight: “When you talk about someone for the last five years, when you meet him, you have to answer for what you said.”
