Usman Nurmagomedov and Paul Hughes to rematch for the PFL lightweight title
The Professional Fighters League (PFL) has confirmed a highly anticipated rematch for the lightweight championship between Usman Nurmagomedov and Paul Hughes. The fight is scheduled for October 3rd in Dubai. The PFL made the official announcement of the 155-pound title fight on Wednesday. Anticipation for this second match has been high since January, when Nurmagomedov defeated Hughes by majority decision in a close encounter. The first fight also took place in Dubai.
Nurmagomedov, who is the cousin of the legendary retired MMA fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, showed remarkable dominance. However, Hughes pushed him to the limit in the inaugural fight for the PFL lightweight title.
Hughes expressed his belief that he had won and called the judges’ scorecards “quite ridiculous”.
Hughes, 28, achieved a knockout victory in the first round against Bruno Miranda in May. For his part, Nurmagomedov has not fought since his victory over Hughes.
In addition, the PFL announced a light heavyweight fight between Corey Anderson and Dovlet Yagshimuradov for the October 3rd event.
