Conor McGregor Sanctioned for Anti-Doping Test Failure

The renowned MMA fighter, Conor McGregor, has been suspended for 18 months by the UFC’s anti-doping program, Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD). The sanction, which began on September 20, 2024, will extend until March 20, 2026. This period of ineligibility comes after several failures related to McGregor’s availability for testing. The Irish fighter failed to meet the location requirements on three occasions, resulting in the suspension. According to the CSAD statement, McGregor failed to provide accurate information about his whereabouts, preventing the performance of doping tests on the specified dates.

McGregor failed three attempts to collect biological samples within a 12-month period in 2024, which constitutes a violation of the UFC’s anti-doping program.

CSAD Statement
The failed tests occurred on June 13, September 19, and September 20, 2024. The first coinciding with the announcement of the cancellation of his scheduled fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 303. Despite the failures, CSAD acknowledged that McGregor was recovering from an injury and was not in preparation for a fight during the failed tests. Furthermore, they highlighted the fighter’s cooperation during the investigation. Due to cooperation and mitigating circumstances, CSAD reduced the standard 24-month sanction to 18 months. McGregor has provided four samples in 2025 and is currently in the UFC’s anti-doping testing pool.
