Conor McGregor withdraws from the presidential race in Ireland, calling the electoral process undemocratic. The renowned 37-year-old wrestler had considered participating in the October elections, a scenario that required the support of 20 members of parliament or four local authorities. Despite attempting to combine his massive social media presence with the support of influential figures like Elon Musk, McGregor announced his decision to abandon those efforts on Sunday.

“I want to assure the people of Ireland that this will not be my last electoral foray. You will see me again in the future, fighting for your rights and representing the best interests of our nation,” McGregor wrote on X.

Despite his popularity on social media, McGregor’s image as a political figure in Ireland is questioned. In November, he was found guilty in a sexual assault case related to an incident in 2018 at a Dublin hotel. A recent poll by the Sunday Independent revealed that only 7% of respondents would have voted for McGregor. McGregor (22-6) hasn’t competed in the UFC since suffering a broken leg in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in 2021. He has expressed interest in participating in the event planned by the UFC at the White House in the summer of 2026.
