Conor McGregor Withdraws from Irish Presidential Race
The renowned mixed martial arts fighter, Conor McGregor, has decided to withdraw from the race for the presidency of Ireland. The announcement, made recently, surprised many, although McGregor’s chances of appearing on the ballot were considered slim. McGregor, 37, would have needed the backing of 20 members of parliament or four local authorities to be nominated. Despite his efforts to mobilize his followers on social media and seek the support of influential figures like Elon Musk, the former UFC champion has chosen to abandon his presidential aspirations.“I want to assure the people of Ireland that this will not be my last election,” McGregor wrote on X. “You will see me campaigning again in the future, fighting for your rights and representing the best interests of our nation.”

While McGregor maintains a strong presence on social media, his image as a political figure in Ireland is a subject of debate. A 2018 sexual assault case, in which he was found guilty, has affected his reputation. A recent poll revealed that only 7% of respondents would vote for him.
McGregor (22-6) hasn’t competed in the UFC since suffering a broken leg in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in 2021. However, he has expressed interest in participating in the UFC event scheduled for the summer of 2026 at the White House.
