Jorge Masvidal Wins Million-Dollar Lawsuit Against Fanmio
UFC veteran Jorge Masvidal has secured a significant legal victory. A Florida judge ruled in his favor, awarding him a judgment for breach of contract exceeding $5 million against the online platform Fanmio.
Judge Beatrice Butchko Sanchez approved Masvidal’s request, following the decision of an arbitrator who awarded him $5,315,268.64, plus post-judgment interest related to his boxing match.
Masvidal sued Fanmio in January, alleging that his agreement for the fight against Nate Diaz included a purse of $6 million, plus an additional million if he won. Masvidal lost the fight by decision and claimed to have received only a $150,000 advance and a $1 million payment.
The referee ruled in favor of Masvidal, and with the final approval, this matter has been resolved.
However, Fanmio still faces litigation with other fighters.
Nate Diaz filed a lawsuit against Fanmio, two weeks after Masvidal’s case, claiming more than $9 million. An arbitrator awarded Diaz $6 million, plus attorney’s fees. This case is still awaiting final approval.
In March, Fanmio filed a lawsuit against Golden Boy Promotions and Ryan Garcia.
