Jorge Masvidal Wins Legal Victory Worth Millions Against Fanmio
UFC veteran Jorge Masvidal has achieved a significant legal victory. A Florida judge awarded him a default judgment of over $5 million in his lawsuit against the online platform Fanmio.
Judge Beatrice Butchko Sanchez approved Masvidal’s request, confirming the arbitrator’s ruling that awarded him $5,315,268.64, plus post-judgment interest.
Masvidal sued Fanmio in January, alleging breach of contract in relation to his 2024 boxing match against Nate Diaz. The initial agreement stipulated a purse of $6 million, plus an additional million in case of victory. Masvidal lost the fight by decision and claimed to have received only an advance of $150,000 and a payment of $1 million.
The referee ruled in favor of Masvidal, and with the final approval, the matter is resolved.
However, Fanmio still faces litigation with other fighters.
Nate Diaz, who fought against Masvidal, filed a lawsuit against Fanmio two weeks later, claiming more than 9 million dollars. The arbitrator awarded Diaz 6 million dollars, in addition to attorney’s fees. That case is still pending final approval.
In March, Fanmio initiated a lawsuit against Golden Boy Promotions and Ryan Garcia, due to the cancellation of an exhibition fight with Rukiya Anpo, scheduled for December 31, 2024. Garcia opted to fight Rolando Romero in May.
