The mixed martial arts (MMA) legend, Khabib Nurmagomedov, has expressed his wish that his former rival, Conor McGregor, take a new direction in his life. Nurmagomedov, who defeated McGregor in one of the most intense fights in UFC history in 2018, expressed his opinion on the future of the Irish fighter. The ex-champion, retired undefeated in 2020, commented on McGregor’s current situation, who has faced various legal problems after his fight.

This is a punishment, [but] the most beautiful part of this is that Allah always gives the opportunity to return. I think he has a chance. He has to change how he is living.

Khabib Nurmagomedov
Nurmagomedov, during an intervention in New York, added that a change in McGregor’s life could positively influence other people.

Why am I talking about this? If he is going to change, he can change many other lives with him too. That’s why I wish him to change himself. If he is not going to change, it will be a punishment all his life.

Khabib NurmagomedovThese statements contrast with previous comments from Nurmagomedov, who in 2019 stated that the rivalry with McGregor would never end. McGregor hasn’t fought since he suffered a leg fracture in July 2021. However, he recently rejoined the UFC’s mandatory testing pool, in preparation for a possible return.
