Khabib Wishes a Positive Change in Conor McGregor’s Life
The legendary former mixed martial arts fighter, Khabib Nurmagomedov, has expressed his desire to see his former rival, Conor McGregor, take a new direction in his life. Nurmagomedov, who defeated McGregor in one of the most intense fights in UFC history in 2018, believes there is still hope for the Irish fighter. After submitting McGregor with a rear naked choke, Nurmagomedov jumped out of the octagon to continue a fight with McGregor’s team. Nurmagomedov retired as an undefeated champion in 2020. McGregor, with a record of 1-2 after their encounter, has faced various legal controversies, including a civil case for sexual assault in 2024.Nurmagomedov commented during an intervention in New York on Saturday. Nurmagomedov added: “If he changes, he can change many other lives too. That’s why I wish he transforms. If he doesn’t change, punishment will accompany him all his life.” These words contrast with Nurmagomedov’s comments after their rivalry, when McGregor made comments about Nurmagomedov’s personal life. In 2019, Nurmagomedov stated that the rivalry would never end. McGregor hasn’t fought since he suffered a leg fracture during his TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. However, the 37-year-old fighter has recently rejoined the UFC’s mandatory testing program, in preparation for a possible return.“This is a punishment, but the most beautiful thing is that Allah always gives the opportunity to return. I think he has a chance. He has to change his way of life.”
