Imavov Triumphs: Key Victory in UFC Middleweight Division

Nassourdine Imavov solidified his position as a potential title contender in the UFC middleweight division, following a remarkable unanimous decision victory over Caio Borralho in Paris. Imavov, competing before his audience, achieved his fifth consecutive victory. The judges scored the fight with scores of 50-45, 49-46 and 49-46, respectively. This victory could propel Imavov to a championship fight against Khamzat Chimaev. The UFC has scheduled another high-profile middleweight matchup in October, between Anthony Hernandez and Reinier de Ridder, which could determine Chimaev’s next opponent.

Considering the circumstances, I am very happy with my performance. I would have liked to have reached the end, but it is what it is. I am next. Borralho was undefeated for 10 years. I just beat him, and I beat him with style. I need to be next.

Imavov outstruck Borralho in total strikes, 100-90, demonstrating a more precise and damaging offense. He evaded Borralho’s strikes and landed counter-strikes throughout the night, dominating the center of the octagon and defending all of his opponent’s takedown attempts. This defeat represents Borralho’s first in the UFC and his first since 2015.
Nassourdine Imavov, left, handed Caio Borralho his first MMA loss since 2015 and could be the next challenger for middleweight champ Khamzat Chimaev.

Nassourdine was the better man today. He was very fast, as I expected. I couldn’t attack much. I wanted to make it entertaining for the fans and the UFC, so I tried to strike with one of the best strikers in the world. I think I need to get my adrenaline back. I need some motivation, but I was without adrenaline and couldn’t get it back in this fight.

Caio Borralho
It was a disappointing night for The Fighting Nerds, the Brazilian MMA team. In addition to Borralho’s defeat, Mauricio Ruffy also suffered his first defeat in the UFC, falling to Benoit Saint Denis, who submitted him with a rear-naked choke in the second round. French fighters achieved a 5-0 record on Saturday’s fight card. The light heavyweight veteran, Paul Craig, announced his retirement after a TKO loss to Modestas Bukauskas.
