Hecher Sosa Wins UFC Contract After Tragic Loss

Spanish bantamweight Hecher Sosa secured a contract with the UFC on “Dana White’s Contender Series” on Tuesday, just 72 hours after the death of his father. Sosa (14-1) defeated Mackson Lee (9-1) by unanimous decision in the main event of the series in Las Vegas. The 30-year-old fighter decided to go ahead with the fight despite receiving the news of his father’s death on Sunday morning, who suffered from cancer. Sosa also lost his sister to the same disease a year ago.

“Today I can’t speak [with my father], but he is the reason why I am here. He is the reason why I am the man I am, and I will continue to represent him,” Sosa declared through an interpreter.
